Chronic pain management in the North East of England

MB BS, MD, FRCA, FFPMRCA |
I was appointed as a Consultant in Pain Management and Anaesthetics in 2005, by the City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.
My base NHS hospital is Sunderland Royal Hospital and I hold my Pain Clinics in the Outpatients building of Monkwearmouth Hospital. This allows easier access to patients from a large catchment area extending from South Shields in the North to Ryhope in the South, and Seaham in the East to Gateshead in the West. I also hold practicing privilege at Spire Washington Hospital. I am happy to offer the expertise of my NHS experience in the Independent Sector. I live locally in Washington and am easily accessible for appointments to be arranged at a short notice. I have more than 11 years’ experience in managing patients suffering from chronic pain. I believe in individualized assessment and management through the help of a care plan. This may involve personnel from other specialized services such as physiotherapists, acupuncturist and psychologist. I am happy to see patients with chronic pain in their neck, back, arms, legs or various joints. I may be able to offer help in conditions like sciatica and other neuropathic pain illnesses. I have reasonable expertise in injection procedures such as facet joint injections, rhizotomy, transforaminal epidurals or nerve root blocks, caudal epidural, peripheral nerve blocks, pulsed radiofrequency treatment and stellate ganglion block. There maybe situations where injection interventions are unsuitable and I am happy to help out with drugs / dosage titrations and other forms of conservative pain management strategies. |
